ACRATH 12 MONTHS LATER

Australian Catholic Religious Against Trafficking in Humans (ACRATH) continues to grow ...

During the last 12 months since ACRATH was able to highlight the issue of Trafficking in Persons at the 2006 ACLRI Assembly, the group has continued to work in education/ awareness raising, advocacy/ lobbying and as service providers.

"We network and collaborate with groups - both Religious and civil - working in anti-trafficking," said ACRATH Chair, Sr Pauline Coll, SGS, of Brisbane (pictured right, speaking at the public rally in Adelaide last year).

"A major activity of ACRATH in October, 2006 was our visit to Canberra. We met with interested parties, both within and outside the Federal Parliament.

"We continue to lobby around the needs highlighted in the ACRATH shadow report to the CEDAW committee at the UN in early 2006."

The network has extended through many States and internationally and awareness of the problem has continued to grow among many Religious, their associates and partners in ministry, she said.

"We are grateful for the continued support - both financial and other - of many of the Religious Congregations. Now that we have a public profile, requests for information, networking and collaboration have increased."
